Premium Railing Planter

$260.00

This is the premium version of my original 36 inch cedar railing planter. I build these with plant enthusiasts in mind because I grow peppers myself, so drainage, durability, and real‑world use matter. All boards are run through a thickness planer for clean, even surfaces. Every mating surface is hand‑planed to improve assembly, glue‑up, fit, and overall structural integrity. It makes the planter tighter, stronger, and cleaner than a simple thickness‑planed build.

The entire planter gets a seal, stain, and UV protection coat. This finish should last about three years under normal outdoor use. The inside gets spar urethane as the second coat, under the liner. The liner helps retain moisture, so the spar urethane is there to protect the cedar and extend the life of the planter.

The drain holes are drilled through the side that faces outward over the railing, not through the bottom. This keeps water off your deck and railings. The drain holes themselves get spar urethane, along with the drain exit area on the outside. Because of that, you may see a spot on the outside that looks like something dripped during finishing. That’s intentional. It’s part of sealing the drain hole so water doesn’t soak into the cedar or cause long‑term damage.

The 36 inch length gives you plenty of planting space for peppers, herbs, flowers, or anything that needs room to spread. Each planter is made to order, so I need your railing width to build a clean, balanced fit.

  • Hand‑planed mating surfaces for tight joints and stronger assembly
